The objective for this project was to create a physically accurate digital twin of Panda’s pillow to feature in a longer form film. We started by scanning the pillow using photogrammetry, lidar and Polycam, along with scanning the physical materials using a flatbed scanner. This allowed us to create a super accurate 3D model, and leverage the scan data to create PBR textures using Substance. The outer casing was also simulated in Marvelous Designer to get the super realistic cloth creases, along with the zips and piping.
We also created some additional macro shots of the foam and the weaving of the fabric which was a potential route for a heat transfer visualisation. You can see from the images below the development of the CGI, chasing realism, eventually creating the logo stitching physically in 3D. The custom procedural setup that we created was also animatable.
