Bringing to life, a brand new commercial for the iconic The Lion King - it’s finally here. Debuting in the Tony Awards broadcast, Steam is proud to have completed this incredible project in partnership with Disney Theatrical. This new spot, the first in a series, celebrates the unique visual identity that is the The Lion King. We started with new musical arrangements and mixes of the classic Lion King songs to set the tone. Then taking the show off-stage, we used high speed motion controlled cameras to capture the dynamic choreography, bold colours, and intricate costume design. The world created in post production completes The Lion King cornerstones of adventure, heart and joy.
The three productions for adventure, heart and joy, were all filmed against a green screen studio backdrop at 600fps. Chroma used Maxon’s Cinema4D to mask the complex shots where talent obscured the tracking marker, and tracked each scene with complete control and accuracy, regardless of the drastic camera moves and strong depth of field. Working with Cinema4D to track all of these shots, around 70 across each production, a breeze. The tracking data was then easy to hand back off to post for background scene replacement in After Effects.
